Manuel Cortés en Occo Sevilla

- What is your level of work now that you have released new songs?

I am very happy, I have many concerts. I am in a very good moment of my career. Above all, always with my musicians, with my band, and well, creating new things. It is a joy to always have them with me, with the people I have counted on from the beginning and who have seen me grow day by day.

- Do you see yourself releasing songs with other styles in the future?

Well, it is true that people think that because of my personality or the way I dress, I am a bit modern, so to speak, and it is true that people ask me to record something more reggaeton-ish and so on. It is a genre that I respect a lot, I even listen to it if I have to party, but I feel something else, I feel that I can mix rhythms without making pure reggaeton, I think that for that there are already enough artists who are world number one. My initiative is to grow day by day and of course we have done it, as for example with Aly, creating styles and combining rhythms, an Afro rhythm with flamenco.

- What do you like most about your profession and what would you change about the industry?

At the media level I would not change anything because I think that regretting things is taking a step backwards, I am who I am, who surrounds me. I am grateful to come from where I come, proud and I accept the criticisms that I have to accept in that television aspect, then those who know me know how I am. There are many people who like me when they see me on television, I live day to day and take advantage of opportunities. In my day I was very grateful to television and today I still am because I think it is a method to promote your music and your work and I think it is one of the best that exist.

- A dream at an artistic level.

That my songs never stop enchanting, every time I go on stage and people sing my songs my heart feels the happiest in the world.

- Have you thought about crossing the pond and also trying your luck in Latin America?

Well, I recently crossed it to go hungry (laughs), I was in Honduras recently as you know, I went to Survivor. But at an artistic level we have not done it yet, we have received some messages from Argentina, I think also because of the influence my father had there. Especially in Chile as well.

I was surprised that they sent me videos in Miami in some clubs they were singing "Te quiero", "Me falta el aire", a friend of mine who was there working sent me those videos and the truth is that it makes me very happy. We will wait for the opportunity and when it comes we will have to take advantage of it.

- Do you have in mind to be in another reality show seeing the success you had in Survivors?

Well, the truth is that it is not something I think about daily, but I am open. I have love for Survivors. Unfortunately, after fighting a lot and giving everything there are things that people liked and there are others that they did not, but what we have lived and what we have felt there we know those who have been there. It is a format that I love, it makes you feel good about yourself, find yourself, learn, mature... It is hard, I always say that it is the hardest experience I have lived in my life but one of the most beautiful.

- What do you think of the detractors? Do you think it helps you to work harder or do the criticisms affect you?

This question is very easy, detractors always have to exist, what I recommend is to take the negative comments if you see them and pay attention to them, analyze them. If you think they may even be right, you try to correct it. They serve to correct things, there are detractors who say nonsense but there are others who show their opinion and you have to know how to take the positive from the negative. Think that someone may be criticizing me but is right and have the mentality and try to correct it.
